The central town Ieper is a part of the bigger municipality Ieper, which contains Ieper itself and 10 little villages around Ieper. The names of these villages are Brielen, Sint-Jan, Zillebeke, Hollebeke, Voormezele, Dikkebus, Vlamertinge, Elverdinge, Zuidschote and Boezinge. The municipality Ieper have 35 000 inhabitant, with 21 000 inhabitants in the town Ieper itself.

The municipality Ieper is a part of the district Ieper, which contains the municipalities Ieper, Poperinge, Heuvelland, Zonnebeke, Wervik, Langemark-Poelkapelle, Vleteren and Mesen.
The district Ieper is a part of the region "Westhoek" (Western Corner), which contains the districts Ieper, Diksmuide and Veurne. The Westhoek is a region of province "West-Vlaanderen" (West Flanders), the most western province (with capital Brugge) of state Flanders, the dutchspeaking state of the country "Belgium".

Belgium and Luxemburg (Letzenburg, Luxembourg) are the two members of the monetary union "Belgian-Luxemburg Economical Union". Together with The Netherlands and Luxembourg, Belgium is a part of the local trade union "Benelux". Belgium is a part too of the bigger trade union "European Union" on the continent "Europe".
